On 5/5/2012, there were 780.559 residents living in Amsterdam. In the Netherlands, the 4th of May is Memorial day and the  5th of May is Liberation day. To celebrate that, Amsterdam organised a big dinner and asked Baas to design a table cloth for the festivities.

With 780.559, Baas weaves the names of all the current citizens into the table cloth, a list that references memorials that register fallen soldiers, but at the same time celebrates the presence of the living. To make this table cloth, Baas used Bertjan Pot’s “Font of the Loom,” a very small letter font, woven into the textile.

The table cloth was made in collaboration with the Textile Museum Tilburg and is a part of the Amsterdam Historical Museum collection.
